Water Security

Problem Statement

Saltwater intrusion has already affected more than 20 million people in coastal Bangladesh and climate change is likely to exacerbate the problem in the near future. Hence, we need scalable solutions for addressing climate change induced water security risks.

Objectives

To forecast climate change induced water security risks and to develop evidence based scalable solutions to mitigate the forecasted risks.

Approach

We are developing high resolution models to forecast climate change and hydrologic models to determine induced risks to supply of freshwater in the near future, identifying appropriate technology profiles to ensure reliable and equitable access to freshwater in the face of the forecasted risks, generating evidence-based scalable mechanisms to provide water using the appropriate technologies, and engaging with local, national, and international stakeholders and policymakers to mobilize actions.
