Our goal is to empower people, communities, and governments to better plan for and respond to climate change by creating information-sharing/decision-support tools and intervention services in collaboration with local partners that will become a locally driven, globally scalable public good.

We seek to demonstrate a unique, proactive approach to climate adaptation that enables communities to develop evidence-based, integrated climate change adaptation plans.

Our team combines leading-edge climate forecasting, local and regional data, and socioeconomic analysis with innovative resilience services to empower people to make and implement informed decisions about adaptation and relocation—and thereby minimize loss of life, livelihood and property. 

Within five years, we aim to increase the climate resilience of vulnerable populations in vulerable areas, starting wtih Bangladesh and Sudan. We have three intermediate outcomes.

• Vulnerable people are better informed and proactively adapt to climate change

• City and local governments, NGOs, and the private sector offer services and technologies to help people to adapt at a larger scale

• Vulnerable people in Bangladesh and Sudan increase climate-resilient agricultural productivity and food security

Key Activities

JO-CREWSnet fuses long‑range climate forecasting, economic modeling, and socioeconomic data into an open‑source, widely accessible system to inform local decision‑making. Unique among climate-change adaptation initiatives, we seek to enables communities to develop proactive, evidence-based, integrated climate-change adaptation plans. Our activities include:

• Analysis 
  • ​Projecting trends in key climate variables, their interactions, and impacts
  • Forecasting economic and demographic trends
  • Extending proven forecasting and simulation methods to predict climate impacts at the regional and community scale in selected areas.
• Decision Support
  • Assessing if, when, and how ecosystems will exceed their capacity to sustain human life, or where adaptation in place is possible
  • ​Building information-sharing tools to support low- and high- literacy populations as well as urban and rural demographics
  • Communicating and sharing new climate knowledge broadly to support adaptation decisions by central and local governments, the national government, NGOs, and international partners
• Action
  • Developing and experimenting with prototypes of new adaptation solutions
  • Working with local communities to implement climate resilience technologies or proactively manage disruptive change
• Evaluation
  • Evaluating the impact and effectiveness of new interventions
  • Incorprating community and user feedback into the design of information-sharing and decision-support tools
